SUMMARY:Mindfulness Fundamentals for Athletes
DESCRIPTION:4-Week Mindfulness Fundamentals \nOnline Course\nJULY 28th-AUGUST 23rd\, 2024\n4:00-5:30 pm Pacific\nYou spend hours training your body.\n       It is just as important to train your mind and spirit.\n               Learn how to use mindfulness to find flow in sports and in life.\n  \nMindfulness can enhance athletic\, and academic or work performance by:\n\nStrengthening mental focus.\nEnhancing emotional resilience.\nRefining physical awareness and fine tuning technique.\nProviding specific ways of working with distracting or negative thoughts and feelings.\nIncreasing the ability to persevere during periods of challenge\, plateau\, set-back\, and injury.\nDeveloping systems of self-care.\nIntensifying your natural love of your sport.\nIntentionally creating a positive\, collaborative team culture.\n\nHere’s a short list of some of well known athletes and teams that have used\, or are using\, mindfulness to enhance performance: \n\nThe 2015 NFL Champions Seattle Seahawks\nOlympic gold medalists Simone Biles and Aly Raisman\nThe 2016 World Series winning Chicago Cubs\nOlympic Gold Medalist\, FIFA World Cup Champion\, and USWNT team member Alex Morgan\nOlympic beach volleyball gold medalist Kerri Walsh-Jennings\nMountain Bike World Champion Kate Courtney\nThe US national BMX team\, including 2016 Olympic gold medalist Connor Fields\n2015 and 2017 NBA champions\, the Golden State Warriors\, .\n\nIn fact\, the Warriors’ core values are joy\, mindfulness\, compassion\, and competition.\nCoaches: Prepare yourself\, your athletes\, and your team for competition.\nMindfulness is an ideal tool to allow you to bring out the best in yourself\, your athletes and your team. In the heat of the moment it is easy to loose sight of our intentions and to coach in ways that are\, at best ineffective\, and at worst actually prevent our athletes and teams from performing optimally. With practice\, mindfulness can help you keep your cool\, create a supportive team culture\, see clearly what is called for in a pivotal moment\, diffuse negative team dynamics\, and inspire your athletes to give their best in practice\, competition\, and life. \nWhen you and your athletes learn mindfulness together\, you have a common language for dealing with the up and downs of training and competition. Sharing these essential skills with your athletes will allow them to make the most of your coaching and their natural talent\, and ultimately achieve peak performance. \nMy work with  athletes and coaches is informed by:\n\nbeing a young gymnast with minimal natural talent and unwavering commitment\nhaving surgery on my right shoulder in 7th grade and my left shoulder in 8th grade\ncoaching young gymnasts as a teen\nearning a walk-on spot as a varsity gymnast at Stanford\nbecoming a competitive cyclist\nbeing hit by a car while riding (which synchronistically led me to mindfulness)\nestablishing a long standing passionate mindfulness practice\ncoaching 5-8 year olds in youth soccer\nmindfully learning to snowboard at the age of 40\, and surf at the age of 56\nbeing a parent of one professional athlete\, and one performing artist\nsharing mindfulness with many athletes from very young youth soccer players to Division 1 varsity athletes to national champions and professionals\n\nClick to Register

SUMMARY:Mindfulness Practicum for Teachers & Mentors
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness Practicum for Teachers & Therapists\n10-Week Online Course\nMARCH 26th – MAY 21st\nLive Sessions Thursdays 4:00-5:30 pm PST\nClick to Register\nThis practicum is designed for educators and allied professionals who are interested in offering mindfulness to children & adolescents — to support youth in developing their natural capacities for focused attention\, engaged learning\, emotional fluency\, respectful communication\, and compassionate action. Together we will explore\, in detail\, the research-based Still Quiet Place curriculum. \nDuring this interactive training participants will: \n\nEither begin or continue their personal mindfulness practice for at least 30 minutes per day.\nReview current research regarding the benefits of teaching mindfulness to children and adolescents.\nObserve & discuss a ten-session curriculum for 4th-7th graders from beginning to end.\nExplore & discuss skillful adaptations in language and practice to make mindfulness inviting and accessible to different age groups and populations.\nDiscuss the realities of offering mindfulness practices in classroom\, therapeutic\, and community settings.\nDiscuss the challenges faced when providing mindfulness instruction\, including reluctance\, resistance\, or misunderstanding on the part of children\, parents\, and administrative leadership.\nReview & reflect upon the essential qualities and qualifications for those interested in teaching mindfulness to children\, and receive a framework for evaluating their own readiness to teach mindfulness to youth.\nDiscuss ideas for presenting/pitching a new mindfulness program in specific settings.\n\nThe Practicum Experience\nThe Still Quiet Place online practicum is an interactive experience delivered via a combination of online discussions with Dr. Amy and classmates from across the globe\, readings from A Still Quiet Place: A Mindfulness Program For Teaching Children and Teens to Ease Stress and Difficult Emotions and videos of Dr. Amy teaching to 4th graders in an underserved community. Each student is required to maintain a daily personal practice for the duration of the practicum. \nClick to Register\nTeaching mindfulness to children is both a privilege and a responsibility. This course helped me shape my own practice into a form I can now present with confidence to kids. Dr. Amy\, my peers\, and I touched on everything from practical teaching techniques\, to personal readiness\, to the business side of teaching mindfulness. A very powerful course I experienced from the inside\, out.  Course Participant
